Informative BlackSheep Information
The Black Sheep Squadron is growing!
In case you may have missed it, there are BSS Chapters being formed around the continent. At this time we currently have Kansas, Texas, Michigan, Arizona, Vermont, Connecticut, Quebec and most recently Melbourne, Australia as Chapters with, I am sure, more on the way.
The BSS “Movement” is taking hold and people enjoy being a part of what this group is all about, the enjoyment and promotion of our great sport of hot air ballooning. We have seen, firsthand, how people flock to our group and it is quite odd how alike they are to us all. The BSS is one big Family and we all treat each other as such.
The Board of Directors is working hard to put forth our 4th Annual Black Sheep Rally again at the Kingswood Golf Course in Hudson Falls, NY. With that we are looking to bring in 25 balloons this year as well as many other items which will allow people to enjoy a whole day in between the balloon launches. There is talk about having a large tailgate party on the launch field after the Saturday morning flight on 9/11/10. This will provide a great opportunity for the teams to mingle as well as people from the community to mingle and ask questions, purchase merchandise, etc.
The Black Sheep Rally began with the original 6 balloons invading the Adirondack Balloon Festival from one mile north of the Warren County Airport. Since then it has blossomed and will even have a sister event to be held in Amarillo, Texas in October of 2010. More details on this event to come soon. The original 6 pilots consisted of Andrew Avon, BJ Sullivan, Eric Hodges, John Kelly, Mike Hernandez and Todd Monahan. A statement was made that day and people took notice.
By becoming a part of the Black Sheep Squadron you have made a decision to believe in the principals that we believe in. There should be no discrimination in our sport. This sport needs an influx of new blood and you are helping to make that happen. Bringing a twinkle to a childs’ eye could in fact be what one day drives him to become a new LTA pilot. We believe in what we are doing and enjoy meeting you and becoming your friend.
As things develop in the coming months I will take it upon myself to help spread the word to all of you. Please feel free to comment as you wish because you may have an idea for the BSS that we should really take a look at.
Until I blog again… Soft Landings!
Mike

Winter Carnival
Hello Everyone out there in the Black Sheep World:
I want everyone to know that SunKiss Ballooning will be up at the Lake George Winter Carnival every weekend from 8:30-9:30 with beers included afterwards!! We all have to experience coffee or hot chocolate at the start of a ballooning experience and then a beer afterwards!! The Winter Carnival is a great activity to get everyone to come together in a town where nothing really happens because it is strictly a summer tourist spot. We will help contribute by inflating the balloon on tons of snow on top of the ice generating more people out on the ice and in the town of Lake George. Please come out and see us while supporting Lake George.
On February 20th, our fellow Black Sheep brothers will be gathering together to tell ballooning stories and getting ready to fly from Lake George at the Lake George Winter Carnival Fly Off! We have people coming from Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, Albany, South Glens Falls, and Glens Falls to participate in this fun fly off allowing us sheltered pilots to get our balloons out of the trailers and fly! Saturday morning we will be flying off Lake George and then having a Moon Glow Saturday Evening. Sunday Morning will be tethers and/or if the winds are right, we will fly off from the Lake once again! Once again, please come out to see us and meet the pilots from all over the North East!
Hope to see everyone there!
